DIAGLAS is the registered trade name of conventional glass cell cast acrylic sheet. It is used for building material, lighting appliance, display, furniture, industrial material, signposts, signboards, bathtubs, spa pools, aquariums etc.

DIAGLAS has many excellent characteristics such as

  1. LIGHT IN WEIGHT: DIAGLAS (Specific Gravity 1.19) when compared with inorganic glass (Specific Gravity 2.5), is less than half of its weight
  2. WATER - CLEAR -  DIAGLAS has an extremely excellent resistance to sunlight, weather, and both high and low temperatures
  3. IMPACT RESISTANCE - DIAGLAS has greater impact strength than glass. It is unbreakable when you hit it with a hammer and even in the case of breakage it is safe because it does not shatter into smaller pieces like glass.
  4. VARIOUS COLORS AVAILABLE -  A wide range of transparent colors as well as translucent colors are available. Surface of colored sheet has superior gloss. White translucent colors have a superior light diffusion effect, characteristics of which are better when used as lighting diffuser panels, sky-light-domes, signboards and so on
  5. EASY FORMABILITY - DIAGLAS is a thermoplastic so it becomes soft when heated, and hard when cooled. Typical forming conditions using an air circulating oven are 140-180OC in the case of thickness 3mm.
  6. THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY - The surface hardness of DIAGLAS is about the same as that of aluminum. It is harder than some of other plastic sheets but a bit softer than glass.
  7. CHEMICAL RESISTANCE - It is insolvent to inorganic chemicals and normal chained hydrocarbon, but contact with organic solvent causes dissolvevent, swelling, hazing, and cracking.

STORAGE

DIAGLAS, a thermoplastic, must not be placed in contact with heating coils, radiators, and hot water or steam pipes. DIAGLAS must also be kept away from certain chemicals and their solutions which are harmful to it. The elongation of DIAGLAS is larger than of metals. Unmasked DIAGLAS sheets should be stored in the original shipping rack or case. It is better the sheets be stored on edge unpacked. If the case is opened, store the sheets on edge in an angled frame. Masked DIAGLAS sheets can be stored on edge or storage racks divided into narrow sections.

If masked sheets must stored horizontally, special care must be taken to protect them from being scratched over the surface. Each pile of sheets must be covered with clean cloth to keep dust out. It is important to keep each less than 30 cm. (12 inches) high. The storage room should be kept well ventilated. Excessive moisture causes troubles, such as deforming and the difficulty of removing the masking paper. Marked temperature variation must also cause the same troubles, DIAGLAS sheets must not be stored outdoors.

CLEANING

To clean the surface of DIAGLAS it is better to use plenty of soap and water, with very soft cloth or sponge. Rubbing with a dry cloth builds up an electrostatic charge on the plastic so that it attracts dust particles from the air. Never use lacquer, thinners, gasoline, acetone, alcohol, benzene, or carbon tetrachloride because these are harmful to DIAGLAS.

HANDLING

DIAGLAS is a rigid plastic, but if not properly handled, the surface may easily get scratched. Handle DIAGLAS with care to avoid scratching. If the surface is scratched, the proper polishing must be used in buffing and hand-polishing. The masking paper should be kept on until it must be removed for fabricating the plastic.

MASKING PAPER

The pressure sensitive glue on the masking paper is sticky but does not remain on the surface of DIAGLAS. If any trace of it is found on the surface of the sheet, remove it with a dilute solution of Methanol. The masking paper is difficult to remove if it is exposed to sunlight and the atmosphere for ten days or more.
